// SUNNY'S

// SUNNY'S

My Friday night stated in Dumbo at a bar called Gran Electrica. I met up with an old friend from Toronto, Ian, who just moved here with his wife about two weeks ago? Ian and I met while I dancing for the Raptors Dance Pak. He was the guy who shot all the video for the jumbotron. Anyways, we have remained close ever since and boom, having cocktails in New York. Ian was sitting with a bunch of friends when I got there who all work in post production. One of the guys I met does all the video for GQ. We spoke briefly about his job and he said the coolest thing about it was getting used to seeing celebrities all the time. He also said meeting Kanye West was one of the coolest experiences he has ever had. Kanye is an actual genius he said. When they were shooting his cover this past June, Kanye wouldn't leave until everything was perfect. He said things that he would talk about would all have some sort of purpose and brilliance to it. I love New York nights like this. Meeting awesome people is one of my favourite activities.

Our night ended at the oldest bar in Brooklyn, Sunny's. The cutest place I have ever been to. While we were standing in the court yard, we were chatting with the owner. She and her husband run the bar, and it hasn't changed since it opened. She is an artist/ musician, so she books all the talent [she also has very good taste, the live band was amazing] We asked her what kept the place alive for so long, she said "because it's real".

It's Saturday and sunny. I'm going to finish this cawfee and head to a patio. Happy weekend. x -C

// TOURIST

I finally got back into the city yesterday at around 4:30 pm, after being delayed since 7:00 am. I dropped my stuff off, unpacked my camera and went for a walk. Haven't done a tourist stroll in a while. I walked onto, ugh I forget the name of the street, I was in the West Village and the street started with a C. Helpful. Anyway, I walked onto a really cute street that started with a C, and found a delightful looking cocktail and oyster bar. All the new places you can find in a 10 minute walk in New York City still blows my mind. Happy to be back :) Happy Friday!

It's 8:30 pm, my flight is supposed to be boarding now. Instead, it's delayed. Yay for me. So I've sat myself down at the bar, ordered a campari, and opened my computer. I'm flying back home to New York from a nice long weekend spent at home home [which is Richmond Hill]. I think this was the first trip home home that made me realize how quickly the people in my life are growing up. I met Shai, Sandra's new baby [I don't think I've mentioned the girls on this new site yet, you can click here to be redirected to old iCandi posts] on Saturday night before the ladies and I went to eat at our favouritre restaurant in the City, Lee's. My older sister Tina is married, all my little cousins have instagram, and facebook and can play baseball better than I can, my little sister just finished writing her MCAT, my brother is getting better looking by the day, I'm heading back to a city that I'm slowly calling home. My guy friends are turning into men, I'm talking to you on a whole new grown up version of iCandi, I shipped off orders earlier today to people who are actually interested in pieces that I designed [a dream of mine that has come true]. And on top of it all, when the hell did I become a 26 year old? This is all just happening too fast. [side note: flight delayed another hour, "another Campari please"]

Maybe I'm just getting emotional, or a little tipsy, but life is happening. Big things are happening. My friends are bringing other humans into the world. It's incredible to watch. We are growing up. Ew.

Oh, flight just got cancelled. This day has been one of those days that just seriously needs to come to an end. [takes a sip of her cocktail]

// DESIGNING FOR MEN

// FOR MEN

In an earlier post I mentioned my newest collaboration with the men sock line, Twnty Two, and I have to say the research for it hasn't been the worst thing in the world ; ) [sorry Jersey]. Above are runway shots I took from last New York Fashion Week Spring' 14, Nautica Black Sail, below are from Richard Chai's runway, and below that are street style shots [all from the same Fashion Week]. I'm trying to come up with a cool conceptual design that would somehow fit all these looks, while at the same time be perfect for a man in a suit. Okkkk, back to work. x -C

About two years ago, I was sitting with Audrey and Sheena on the roof of Spokes Club in Toronto. I remember we just finished an assignment for their company at the time, Making Sh*t Happen. I think this was also around the time I discovered the delicious taste of an Old Fashion. Why that was relevant to this story, I don't know. Anyway, Audrey and I were having a conversation about my dreams, moving to New York City, and the industry. She told me two things that I will never forget; 1. Dream big, but goal set small, 2. Never lose your authentic self. It's easy to get influenced to change. This conversation has turned into my Motto for Candice Kaye Design.

In other news, Candice Kaye Design now has her own instagram! Follow Here Woot. x -C

Very Berry Hibiscus with real blackberries was the cocktail of the weekend... from Starbucks. It's delicious. A beach day somewhere north was where these photos were taken. It's been really nice seeing everyone I have in such a short visit. Summer don't end. Please.

The only bad thing about living in New York City - being away from these peeps. I'm back in Toronto for a little longer than a weekend which is just delightful. Yesterday was a full day of catching up with friends in the beaches, enjoying cocktails with Sandra, Danielle, and Britt over dinner, and late night vodka sodas on rooftops in Toronto. Alright, I'm going to enjoy some more family time now. Happy weekend. x-C
