// BEAUTY MOMENT

I envy people who take the time to look after themselves. I wash my face, brush my teeth [good for me right?], moisturize morning and night aaand that's about it. I read about face masks, and special oils, and different plants you can eat or put on your skin to make it glow like an angel - I have never glowed like an angel. My nails have been spending their time unpainted lately as well. Between my full-time hours and freelance, the nail salon can wait. My older sister Tina gets her nails done every Friday. Every.single.Friday - impressive.

Last night I decided to make a change. I painted my nails red and was going to make the time to use my very expensive exfoliator Tina had gotten for me a couple months ago. I opened it just to find out it had dried up into what looked like a hard candy ball. I swear I had the entire jar left the last time I checked. Depressing. Also pretty incredible that an entire jar of exfoliator has the potential to look like candy if left for too long. Anyways, that's my Monday morning story. I hope you had a good weekend. For those of you who are off today due to the holiday. I am jealous. x -C

// FAV NYC SPOT #7

// Location: Dear Irving, 55 Irving street, New York, NY

Dan has finished up his tests for dental school, which means the beginning of many date nights for me [selfish laugh]. Date nights in New York City are my most favorite. A different cozy restaurant/chic speakeasy/movie night/dance floor nights - it's all possible! Last night we tried a speakeasy called Dear Irving. Um, how swanky? I love the idea of blocking off sections with hung crystal dividers. Totally snatching that idea for future Candice Kaye Design ideas. Sitting in a room full of crystals was lovely, so were their delightfully delicious cocktails. Yes expensive, but what speakeasy in New York isn't. Most definitely worth the trip! I hope you're enjoying the day! x -C

// Lately

Wallpaper goin' up, on a Tuesday. Candice Kaye Design will be up on the walls in a new spot in Soho. Yup, Elisa and Ben [owners of Maman] are doing it again. Hint - it has to do with chickens. I swear those two never stop. Candice Kaye Design is also doing a collaboration with Roots Canada. This is my proud to be Canadian moment. It will be coming out Spring 2015. Can't wait to see it all put together. Ok, that's all for lately. Oh, oh I also got a new job! Yup, you're talking to the newest designer lady in the custom rug department at Holland & Sherry. An extremely high-end textile company in New York. Very excited about it. Alright, speaking of work time to go. Happy Tuesday! x -C

// WEEKEND VIBES

// Location: Brooklyn Navy Yard

Frizzy short hair, same pants for two days in a row, unpainted nails, and a couple burn marks from heat pressing = my week at a textile design studio in Brooklyn. I can't believe how much I have learned in just a week! What an incredible experience. Some of the things used to make prints I would have never thought about. So creative. I'm starting a brand new chapter on Monday. New job - but this time in high end interior. Exactly where I want to be. Pretty excited about this new adventure! Happy weekend you glorious humans. x -C

// TAKING A MOMENT

// Paris, France - Je Suis Charlie

Every morning I make myself coffee, open my computer and talk to you about whatever it is that I feel like talking about. Then, I take the F train to Brooklyn to a textile studio, and watch designers design whatever they want with materials from glitter to dried up flowers. As creators there is this feeling of freedom that keeps us excited to try new things, experiment, fail [but who cares], and then try again.

I wanted to take a second to reflect on the horror that has happened in France. This freedom to express regardless on heavy or light topics is a freedom we should never take for granted. I have sure learned my lesson. I am sending all my love to everyone in France - as Charb said, [one of the illustrators killed] "Love is stronger than hate". x -C
