// SPRING FEELINGS

//

I like to make New Years resolutions. I also like to write a list of goals/to-do's before I leave the office Friday night and then update those goals on Monday morning. Sometimes the to-do's are simple like get eggs and milk, most of time my casual goals are "meeting with Alice Temperely and the Olsen Twins". I write goals for many different reasons but one of them is to keep me in fairytale land - real life can be a harsh place sometimes. I've come across too many people who become content and lose sight of their goals. Eventually time passes and without actively pushing towards those goals time will turn goals and dreams.

New Year resolutions are fun, but they are created in the dead of winter and you're most likely getting over all the bullshit from the year before. I like to rewrite my new year resolutions once the snow starts to melt, and the sun feels stronger on my skin. That's the true beginning for me. The flowers start to bloom, restaurants set up their tables outside, stylish New Yorkers refresh their wardrobes, everyone is smiling. As the weather starts to feel like summer I know it's time for me to put my new year resolutions to work. I'm very excited to say that yesterday I officially sent my first payment to India for Candice Kaye Design embroidery. The designs look sickkkk. I'm excited for this summer. It's going to be a different one, but sometimes different is needed in order to move forward. Com'on spring, let me see you. I'm ready. x -C

// COLLECTION N FIFTEEN

// Finally

Everything I've been creating for my newest Collection N Fifteen has been looking really awesome on their own, but when I would put everything together it was just ugly. I made Collection N Twelve in two days, wait let me rephrase that, I put together collection N Twelve in two days. It took a couple months to paint all the pieces. Things just click and all of these ideas start flowing in. It's my own little magic. Here's a little sneak of what was happening yesterday. I hope you're enjoying the day x-C

// MAKERS & BAKERS

// Location: And&And

I told you Friday I would have my camera on me for Sunday afternoon's event. Yaa I didn't bring it. So bare with me on these very few iPhone photos. Aside from my poor coverage, the event was amazing! I had the pleasure of meeting some really incredible people. The ladies of MP Shift were awesome, the event was perfect. Every baker teamed up with an influencer and put together a dish. Steven Alan was one of the makers - I introduced myself to him shaking and probably blabbed on about whole lot of nothing. I really got to get over my nerves! It's so embarrassing. I fell in love with the Caroline, the owner of Calliope the store beside And&And. Her and her husband own the entire building #Couple/lifegoals where he runs his creative agency upstairs. They also live in the building. I totally didn't stock them when I got home and read a T Magazine article on their life. Sunday was a good reminder of how amazing New York is when you put a bunch of awesome people in one place.

Ok, getting another coffee. Happy Monday x -C

// THIS SUNDAY AT AND&AND

// Creative Brunch with Grub Street & The MP Shift

This is a mockup of the stationary I'll be giving out at a cool event happening this Sunday at And&And. Grub Street, MP Shift, and a bunch of super creative and talented people (such as MGMT & Steven Alan cool right!!?) have put together a brunch. It's a 4 course brunch with unlimited drinks. My job was to take care of the print on the flyer, and the menus. Check, and check. All proceeds are going to The Edible Schoolyard to help better fund their programs. Which is a school that I really want to get involved with. I've been saying for a while I would love to volunteer at a school and teach art. Teaching kids that there's a world beyond what they learn in the classroom would be so incredible. I'm really excited about Sunday, I'll be bringing along my camera so I'll be updating you on Monday! You can follow along on snap as well @ckayedesign x -C

// FLORAL TILE

// Collection N Twelve

It's one of my favourite feelings getting inquiries for a print! Still crazy to me that people like my work. I spent my Monday morning sending this off to LA. Sort of wish I was just hand delivering it. Sunshine please.

// PURSUIT OF MAGIC

// Location: NoMad Hotel, Dan White

Dan White knows the way to my heart- popcorn, Old Fashions and Magic. I've never seen magic live before. The closest I've gotten is Harry Potter in theater. Considering how much I love magic I was in heaven. Dan and I went to see magician Dan White at the NoMad hotel Friday night and the show was incredible. Highly highly recommended. It left Dan and I talking about White the whole way home. Just when we thought we came up with a perfectly good explanation of how he threw a card at the window that stuck to the outside of the building. Or how he guessed words out of dictionaries, or numbers which were magically written on a powerball card before they were chosen by the audience, until we would think of something else he did that made us start from the beginning. I'm hooked, quitting my life and becoming magician. Sorry Mom.

// WAVEY

// TGIF

I'm still sitting in my workout clothes from 11 am this morning. I haven't had a workout yet. I have every intention to. Soon. It's not all the time I get sparks of creativity, which happened just as I was putting on my running shoes. So I took off my headphones, poured myself another cup of coffee and opened my sketch book. Whenever I get an idea I get this strange urge to do it like right away. This has happened before at 2-3 in the morning. Here's a little scrap from my "really good idea" that ended up coming out not exactly as I imagined it in my head. I can keep on rambling about nothing, so I'll spare you the read. Happy TGIF, I'm going for that run now. x -C

// SERENDIPITOUS

// Location: Soho House, NY

I met Rosa just about this time last year. She was writing for WTF Magazine and I was about to do my first interview. We met at the Mangolia Bakery right near my work [when I worked full-time]. She walked in all New York chic, I was exhausted and most likely looked it. Ever since then we've kept in touch, checking in every once and a while. Last week I randomly bumped into her while leaving a meeting [a rare New York occurrence]. Serendipitous. We ended up stopping for tea and cupcakes. It was a conversation I really needed that day. Funny how life plops people in front of you right when you need them. Rosa and her husband are leaving me and New York for warmer climate. I don't blame them. So we caught up yesterday over cocktails at one of my favourite places in the city.

On my way home I couldn't help but think about life, how I got here, the people I've meet, how my one year plan of living here has now turned into almost three. When life gives you a chance for adventure you must take it. The people I've met along the way have either pushed me to the next step, made me laugh, or taught me something. It's a crazy thing this quest to follow your dream. The one thing I've learned is to not get attached to any of it. Life moves and happens in strange ways. Rosa wasn't the first to tell me that I'll most likely end up somewhere I least expected. That advice has yet to prove me wrong. Happy Thursday peeps. x -C
