// 28.

//

I'm sitting in my studio, looking at Collection N Fifteen on the walls, there's country music playing in the background, and I'm on my second coffee. Twenty Eight. New Yorkers would consider me young, my family considers me old with thirty around the corner, and my grandmother prays for me to find a husband and have babies. Me, I'm busy ripping pages out of travel magazines of Cannes and St. Tropez for my vision board which are also accompanied by pictures of dream clients like the Google offices and Soho Houses, people I would like to work with like Kanye and Karl Lagerfeld and Alice Temperely and Sophia Amoruso and the Olsen Twins, an unknown chic woman casually walking in front of an airplane - a photo I plan to recreate one day.

Life at twenty seven taught me the power of positive thinking when stepping onto unknown territory. It's comfortable going to bed at night when you know what you're going to wake up to the next morning. I decided somewhere between huge dreams and working hard that comfortable was not my cup of tea - that's a feeling I've learned to embrace and fully lean into. So I'm ready twenty eight. Let's hope it's a good one.

// THIRTY HOURS

// CKD Studio

Don't let this view fool you. I was almost in tears from frustration when I took this photo. Textile design takes time. Some designs, depending on how detailed can take me up to 20-30 hours to complete [insert Kanye "30 hours"]. I think I was on hour 9 when I realized what I was creating looked like shit. It's the nature of beast I guess. It takes a certain kind of discipline to throw the 10 hours in the garbage and start again - I'm learning. I can't wait until Candice Kaye Design grows into a team. My team is going to be so sick. Beyonce and dancing all day. Until then, I'll cry to myself and sing alone to Bey. Happy Monday guys x -C

// PROCESS

// CKD

Before the wallpaper collections, the projects, the New York Living - I would sit in my room surrounded by sketch books, and those big design coffee table books. I would sketch chairs - I know odd - [which are in the works as I type] and dream about living in Paris for.hours. Textile design wasn't a dream of mine until much later, but once I first learned about it it was love at first sight. I'm a trained dancer - turned NBA dancer - turned photographer/videographer - turned interior designer - turned textile designer. The journey to get here at times was a frustrating one, until lately. Lately I've watched the dots connect from all of my experiences like clips from a movie. And the movie is starting to get interesting. CKD is nowhere near where I see this company going. My goals are rather grand, and the dreams keep getting bigger. That feeling of not being where I want to be used to really frustrate me [insert panic attacks]. I'm right in the middle of watching some of the things I've been talking about for years come true. That in itself is reassurance that anything is possible. For the first time in my life, I wish life just slowed down for a second for me to take this all in. Unfortunately time doesn't slow down, and I have a deadline for tomorrow. Happy Wednesday x -C

// NO TIME TO CHANGE

//

From the studio to a concert - the only thing that changed were heels. One of the many things New York living has taught me. I really should have fixed my hair. Last night Danielle and I went to see a friend perform as Baby Spice in her Spice Girl impersonator band Wannabe [on snap now before it disappears @ckayedesign]. All of my childhood years flashed before my eyes. My bedroom walls were covered with those spice girl photo packs [you know the ones that cost $20.00 for a pack of 20 photos] that I spent my birthday money - christmas money - pretty much my life savings on. Good times.

// MODE OF TRANSPORT

//

I enjoy working, I also enjoy bike riding down dirt roads to the ice cream store. Michelle, Grace, and I joined the two worlds together and took our computers with us to Mich's cottage. Working on a lake made writing emails a little easier. It also clears the brain a little. I'm back in the studio feeling refreshed, and burnt. I think I might be going to watch a Spice Girl concert tonight. A friend of mine is the baby spice of a Spice Girl cover band. Follow along on snap! ckayedesign x-C

// COE HILL, ON

// Weekend

Beers flow in at around 11 am after two refills of coffee. Food of choice is usually hot dogs or hamburgers, and my hair and skin smell like lake water for the entire weekend. I'm currently sitting in my studio - skin burnt and filled with mosquito bites. Canadian cottage weekends my friends. How I've missed these. Thank you Brittany and Evan for having me!

Today we are installing Olivia's wallpaper! Follow along on Snap [ckayedesign] for all the updates. Happy Monday x -C
