// CKD SUMMER COLLECTION

// a note from the designer

We all work hard. Some days so hard the word 'nap' sounds like a vacation to a tropical island. ckd summer collection was created not for the hard days, but for the days that aren't so hard. The days that Pinterest likes to call "learn to love the process".  The collection was created for those Friday's at 5:30pm when I meet Dan at the train station to catch the 6:15 train to the Jersey Shore, where we sip on our extra large Bud Lights and double check the weather for sunshine. And for those mornings at home when I allow myself to sleep-in until 10 am and do nothing for the next three hours other than sit in my aunts backyard and refill my coffee. Or for those moments when I'm running from work to a meeting on the opposite side of town seriously sweating and laughing at myself at the thought of my crazy life. Life really isn't that serious. So I purposely took the time to stop and enjoy what I love to do and created a collection with bright colors, and Flamingos. Yup. Flamingos. His name is Floyd the Flamingo, and I can't wait for you to meet him tomorrow.

I've learned to "love the process" a little more while designing this collection. I hope you enjoy it as much I did creating it [launch date tomorrow!]. x -C

// FAMILIA

// Congratulations to Melissa and Andrew!

And that's exactly how I imagine Andrew asking Melissa to marry him, full suit, shinny shoes, and that game face. What a lovely weekend. Congrats to the beautiful couple.

// FUERZA BRUTA

// Coolest show I've seen in New York yet.

As a birthday gift Dan surprised me with two tickets to Fuerza Bruta. An off broadway show he saw an ad for in a taxi a while back. He knows me well because I loved it, how could you not. One of the coolest shows I've seen in New York yet. For Valentines Day he took me to Sleep No More [seeing a trend here?] a very cool concept, but nothing as creative as this. From a man running on a treadmill with doors thrown at him, to ladies playing in a huge water tub on top of you, to the dancers swinging and yelling from the ceiling, it gives you a 360 degrees experience. If you're in New York for the weekend and are looking for a cool night out, I highly recommend getting yourself a ticket. On another note, this show smartened me right up. I'm in New York to create cool shit, thanks for the reminder Fuerza Bruta. Happy TGIF x -C

// SNAPCHAT

// ckayedesign

I'm on that snapchat, and I'm not too sure how I feel about it. Maybe it's the constant being on your phone that turns me off. I enjoy taking a photo and then saving it for when I'm laying in bed so I can edit it and post it on my time. I'll give it a go though. Everyone else that I follow seems to have fun with it. And  I can draw hearts around my boy crushes like Cody Simpson [sorry Dan]. And pop tarts are always a good idea. Ok, that's all I got. x -C

// MAMAN TORONTO

// Location: First Canadian Place

It's here, and it's opened, and it fabulous. Of course. Maman Cafe has hit King street. A brand new Candice Kaye Design custom print was created just for this location. Can you spot the new design? Congrats to the Maman team!! I hope for nothing more than more Maman's to come. x -C

// TWENTY SEVEN

// "work hard, then work harder, breathe, enjoy the rewards, dirty martinis are delicious but sneaky, sleep, repeat."

I opened my eyes this morning feeling sleepier than usual. I rolled over to the view of New York City outside my bedroom window, and then smiled at the thought of coffee. My coffee addiction has gotten worse in my older age. I need at least two cups to bypass my caffeine deficient headache. My plane got in late last night from Toronto. The trains from Newark airport weren't the fastest either. It's summer in the city, which means things [and by things I mean the city] start to slow down, the subways start to make them harder to take due to their gross sticky-ness, and when Friday hits I would like to be on a train with Dan to somewhere with a beach - all this just in time for my birthday. Which is today [hence the collage above, bts from my last year]. Twenty Seven. Can you even believe it. Life as a 26 year old has taught me a few very important things, work hard, then work harder, breathe, enjoy the rewards, dirty martinis are delicious but sneaky, sleep, repeat.

Life at 26 was all about work. Launching my first collection, the opportunities I've had with sick collaborations, being apart of a growing family, and meeting the most incredible people who have been not only interested in my work, but unbelievably supportive- I feel lucky. I've laid down a foundation that is all ready for the tiles to be put down [Candice Kaye Designed tiles of course].  I've spent two years away from my family [and missing home], two years of chasing sleep, and zero trips to Soho to shop for new clothes, so cheers to more shopping trips and more sleep for 27 [insert Fight Song by Rachel Platten] Happy Monday x -C
